Heather and Kellan moved into their farmhouse in March of the following year. All of the modifications had been completed: ramps, grab bars, remodeled kitchen and a new accessible bathroom added onto the master bedroom. The claw-foot tub was Heather’s. The house sported a new coat of yellow paint, bottle-green shutters and doors and a deep red tin roof.
Kellan carried Heather across the threshold in his lap when they moved in. He did that again in late October, when they were married.
Heather dedicated a wall in the living room to family photos.
They lived happily and quietly. For all of the things they would do over time, their favorite activity was to make love on stormy nights, where they could lie curled around each other, listening to the rain on the red tin roof.
